No More Invites Required to Join Pinterest

According to a post tonight on the Pinterest blog, new users will no longer need an invite from a current Pinterest user to sign up....leaving all of us to collectively say: "What the heck to you guys so long?"

It will be interesting to see how much Pinterest's usership spikes because of the removal of this barrier. Currently, the social network has 20 million users.

The requirement of an invite didn't seem like a huge issue for many prospective Pinterest users, but it stands to reason that more people will be attracted to an "open" social network rather than a gated community.

Tell us what you think. What impact do you predict this announcement will have on Pinterest?

  1. I sincerely hope that user management tools such as block lists are implemented sooner rather than later as the spammers have already arrived. Cheers.
